Turkey pushes ahead with major irrigation and drinking‑water projects

The State Hydraulic Works (DSİ) reports that the Yeşildere Barajı irrigation project in Karacabey, Bursa, is 88 % complete. When finished, modern pressure‑driven irrigation will cover 38,850 decares across eight neighbourhoods, boosting agricultural productivity and adding an estimated 650 million TRY to the national economy each year.

In Erzincan, a land‑consolidation programme spanning roughly 30,000 hectares and 46 settlements is underway. The effort merges fragmented farms into larger parcels, adds internal roads, and integrates drainage, drainage and irrigation networks to improve water use efficiency and lower production costs.

Kocaeli’s Karamürsel İhsaniye Barajı and accompanying water‑treatment plant have been commissioned to strengthen the region’s drinking‑water supply. The new infrastructure delivers about 15 million m³ of water annually, serving roughly 240 000 residents in Karamürsel, Gölcük and Başiskele, and raises daily treatment capacity to 735 000 m³.
