Turkey State Hydraulic Works projects

Entities: Mehmet Akif Balta · State Hydraulic Works (DSİ) · Doruklu Dam · Kavuşturan Reservoir · Ağrı Province

Overview

In late July 2026, Turkey’s General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSİ) reported continued progress on a series of water‑management and infrastructure initiatives across the country.

In Ardahan Province, officials inspected the under‑construction Durançam Dam and a flood‑control facility on Tetirtaş Deresi, projects that will store 28 million m³ of water, expand irrigation on roughly 78 570 deca of farmland and generate electricity. Simultaneously, municipal leaders in Çorlu reviewed upgrades to the Kemalettin neighbourhood’s roads, drainage and other urban amenities, highlighting a broader push to improve local infrastructure.

A week later, DSİ announced further flood‑control work on the Karasu River in Ağrı and the construction of the Doruklu Dam (42.5 m high, 866 000 m³ storage) and the Kavuşturan Reservoir (26.4 m high, 221 000 m³ storage) in Erzurum. These facilities are expected to irrigate about 2 680 deca of farmland, lower irrigation costs, raise crop yields and contribute an estimated 33.5 million Turkish lira in annual agricultural revenue. DSİ officials linked the expanded program to climate‑change‑induced irregular rainfall, emphasizing a national strategy for sustainable water management.

Together, the snapshots illustrate DSİ’s coordinated effort to bolster flood protection, expand irrigation capacity, generate hydro‑electric power and modernize urban infrastructure throughout eastern Turkey and beyond.
