Erzurum children harvest and sell produce for COP31 awareness

In Erzurum, Turkey, members of a children's rights committee participated in an environmental awareness event held in preparation for the COP31 conference. Organized by the Erzurum Provincial Directorate of Family and Social Services, the initiative aimed to educate youth on climate change, sustainable production, and the efficient use of natural resources.

During the activity, 20 children visited thermal-supported greenhouses owned by the Aziziye Municipality. They engaged in the full agricultural cycle, from learning about seedling planting to harvesting crops such as tomatoes and cucumbers. Following the harvest, the children sold their produce at a local market in the Ilıca neighborhood.

Hasan Aykut, the Erzurum Provincial Director of Family and Social Services, emphasized the importance of involving children in climate discussions, noting that climate change directly impacts their future. The program sought to foster environmental responsibility and active participation in sustainability efforts.
