Erzurum Governor Enforces New Forest Fire Prevention Rules

The Erzurum Governorate announced a series of measures aimed at reducing the risk of forest fires during the summer months, citing rising temperatures, low humidity, strong winds and increased human activity. Entry to forested areas across the province is prohibited from 3 July to 30 October 2026, except for designated national parks, recreation and nature reserves where controlled grill sites may be used between 09:00 and 20:00. Open‑fire picnics, camping, burning of straw, vegetation, fireworks and any unauthorised use of fire are banned.

Industrial facilities bordering forests must implement fire‑prevention actions, and municipalities will establish protection belts, safety strips and keep fire‑fighting equipment on standby. Drones, security‑camera systems and other monitoring technologies will be employed, while coordinated inspection teams from district governorates and the Forest Regional Directorate will enforce compliance. Residents are urged to report any signs of fire to the 112 emergency line.
