Erzurum Municipality Launches Turkey’s First Microsurfacing Road Project
The Erzurum Metropolitan Municipality, led by Mayor Mehmet Sekmen, has begun applying the microsurfacing (Microsurfacing) asphalt technology on Zekai Aksakallı Boulevard, marking the first use of this method by a Turkish municipality. The technique, common in advanced metropolises, provides a fast‑curing, chemically enhanced coating that extends pavement life, improves durability and safety, and shortens repair time, even under Erzurum’s harsh winter conditions. Officials said the pilot aims to raise road comfort and safety to the highest levels and may be expanded to other main arteries in the city.
Mayor Sekmen remarked, “We are proud to be the first municipality in Turkey to use this advanced technology, which makes our roads more durable, safer and more comfortable while allowing repairs to be completed within hours.”
