Costa Rica economic growth slows to 2.5% in July
Costa Rica’s economic growth experienced a notable deceleration in July 2026, according to the Monthly Economic Activity Index (IMAE) released by the Central Bank of Costa Rica (BCCR). The nation’s year-on-year economic expansion reached 2.5%, marking a significant drop of 3.2 percentage points from the 5.7% growth recorded in July 2025.
The slowdown is primarily attributed to a sharp cooldown in the country’s special regimes, which had previously experienced a boom. Despite this recent deceleration, the average year-on-year growth for the national economy up to July settled at 3.6%, indicating a moderated but steady economic trajectory as global market conditions shift.
