Escárcega couple discovered dead after week-long disappearance

After a six‑day search, authorities located the bodies of a missing couple in the rural La Chiquita community near Escárcega, Campeche. The discovery was made by the state’s Secretariat of Protection and Citizen Security (SPSC) with assistance from a K‑9 unit. One report identified the victims as 43‑year‑old Edith Ortega Bilbao and 45‑year‑old Francisco Rocha Suárez, while another source noted that official confirmation of the identities is still pending.

The site was cordoned off for forensic examination by the Fiscalía General del Estado de Campeche (FGECAM) and other agencies, including the National Defense, Navy, National Guard and local search commissions. Preliminary observations mentioned possible signs of violence and a quad bike recovered near the scene bearing blood stains and firearm damage. Investigations continue to determine the cause of death and any perpetrators.

The incident has prompted a coordinated investigative response and added to ongoing concerns about disappearances in the region.
