České Budějovice begins Zátkovo embankment reconstruction

Construction has begun on the reconstruction of the Zátkovo embankment in České Budějovice. The project, awarded to Metrostav DIZ for 137 million CZK (excluding VAT), aims to create a new riverfront area with walkways at water level and spaces for restaurants or cafes.

As part of the 'City and Water' program, the plan includes limiting vehicle traffic on the upper embankment and removing parking from the right bank, with resident parking to be relocated to the opposite side of the Malše river. The project also intends to return the historic Savoy cafe to the area. While the city expects the changes to revitalize the waterfront, the plan has faced local criticism regarding the removal of trees and the alteration of the area's traditional character.
