Eskişehir driver arrested after fatal accident involving 3-year-old

A driver, identified as Fatoş Akıl Bilgesoy, has been arrested following a fatal traffic accident in the Odunpazarı district of Eskişehir. The incident occurred on September 3, when a vehicle struck 3-year-old Elif Mavi Avli and her mother, Merve Avli, as they were attempting to cross the street.

While the mother sustained minor injuries, the child succumbed to her injuries at Eskişehir Osmangazi University Medical Faculty Hospital. Security footage of the accident surfaced, showing the vehicle striking the child, who was reportedly dragged 14 meters.

Initially, the driver was released under judicial control with a house arrest order for the charge of causing death by negligence. However, following an objection by the Eskişehir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and demands from the victim's family, a court overturned the house arrest. The driver was subsequently re-detained and formally arrested.
