Fatal traffic accident in Eskişehir

Overview

On September 3, a fatal traffic accident occurred in the Odunpazarı district of Eskişehir when a vehicle struck 3-year-old Elif Mavi Avli and her mother, Merve Avli, as they attempted to cross the street. While the mother sustained minor injuries, the child died at Eskişehir Osmangazi University Medical Faculty Hospital. Security footage showed the child being “dragged 14 meters” by the vehicle.

Following the incident, the driver, Fatoş Akıl Bilgesoy, was initially released under judicial control with a house arrest order for causing death by negligence. However, after an objection by the Eskişehir Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office and requests from the victim’s family, a court overturned the house arrest. The driver was subsequently re-detained and formally arrested.
