Eskişehir launches intensive sewer‑cleaning to curb foul odors

The Eskişehir Water and Sewerage Administration (ESKİ) began a large‑scale cleaning operation on main city streets after residents complained of strong smells emanating from manholes. Crews opened and scrubbed covers on the heavily trafficked İsmet İnönü Avenue, removing accumulated mud, waste, cigarette butts and other debris that block the drainage system.

Officials also warned the public not to discard rubbish, cigarette ends or other material into sewers or rain‑water channels, stressing that such litter causes blockages and odor problems. The cleanup is scheduled to continue over the weekend and will be extended to other parts of the city as needed.
