A powerful storm across Lithuania has caused widespread damage to infrastructure, primarily affecting the electricity grid. At the peak of the storm, approximately 268,000 customers lost power, with over 129,000 still without electricity as of Monday morning. The most significant outages are concentrated in the Utenos, Kaunas, and Panevėžys regions.

Emergency response efforts are underway, including the use of helicopters in the Zarasai and Biržai districts to locate damaged network lines. Municipalities such as Ukmergė and Marijampolė have reported fallen trees, damaged roads, and disruptions to both electricity and water supplies. In Marijampolė, generators have been deployed to restore water to affected villages.

ESO (Energijos skirstymo operatorius) has announced that it will compensate private customers for direct losses—such as spoiled food, generator rentals, or temporary accommodation—if power is not restored within 72 hours. The maximum compensation for direct losses is capped at 220 euros.

The crisis has drawn political criticism. Minister Jonas Taminskas criticized ESO's preparedness, noting that the power failures have had cascading effects on the railway and telecommunications sectors.
