Esposende City Park opens along the Cávado River
The Esposende City Park, a 10-hectare public green space located along the Cávado River, has been officially inaugurated. The project, situated within the North Coast Natural Park, represents a total investment of approximately 4.95 million euros, supported by community funding through the NORTE 2030 program.
The new area features pedestrian and cycling paths, leisure zones, outdoor event spaces, a playground, and a bird observatory, alongside structures designed to support local flora and fauna. The development aims to strengthen the connection between the city, the river, and the surrounding natural environment.
During the inauguration, Mayor Carlos Silva noted that the final project was adjusted to match the specific land currently held by the municipality. He explained that approximately 7.9 hectares originally planned were not legally classified as part of the public water domain, leading to a modification of the initial scope. The Minister of Environment and Energy, Maria da Graça Carvalho, described the park as a significant case study for integrating nature preservation within urban contexts.
