Esquel municipality evaluates solutions for UATRE land dispute

Members of the rural workers' union, UATRE, are demanding the relocation of eight families in Esquel after it was discovered that their previously adjudicated land in the Valle Chico sector is uninhabitable. According to union delegate Eliana Montini, cadastral plans confirmed the lots are located on a wetland or spring area, making construction impossible.

The affected families have already fully paid for the plots and completed the necessary documentation years ago. Montini noted that many families face significant financial strain, paying for both land installments and rent while traveling from rural areas to pursue these claims.

Diego Austin, the Secretary of Government for the Municipality of Esquel, met with UEPROMU head Cesar Navarro to discuss the issue. Austin acknowledged the complexity of the area, which is intersected by an irrigation canal, and stated that while an immediate response is not possible, the municipality is evaluating short-term solutions. There is ongoing discussion regarding a potential land exchange agreement to provide viable construction sites.
