Esquel municipal land allocations and disputes
Overview
The municipality of Esquel has been managing land allocations in the Valle Chico sector involving various labor unions.
On August 25, the municipality officially transferred a one-hectare plot to the Unión Obrera de la Construcción de la República Argentina (UOCRA) for the development of a recreational and sports complex. Mayor Matías Taccetta indicated that similar land provisions have been made to other unions, such as Camioneros and Sitravich.
However, a dispute has emerged regarding land previously adjudicated to the rural workers' union, UATRE. Union representatives report that eight families are facing uninhabitable plots located on wetlands or spring areas, making construction impossible despite the families having fully paid for the land. In response, the Secretary of Government, Diego Austin, stated that the municipality is evaluating short-term solutions, including a potential land exchange agreement to provide viable sites.
