EsSalud facility in Nuevo Chimbote mislabeled as hospital despite service gaps

The Comptroller General of the Republic (CGR) has identified significant irregularities and service deficiencies at the EsSalud Hospital I Cono Sur in Nuevo Chimbote. According to a control report, the facility is incorrectly designated as a 'Hospital I' when it actually functions as a first-level polyclinic. This mislabeling on administrative documents and the building's facade creates false expectations regarding the level of specialized care, equipment, and emergency resolution capacity available to patients.

During inspections, the CGR noted several critical infrastructure and service gaps. Emergency evaluations are being conducted in hallways due to the lack of a physical triage area, and the facility lacks essential medical tools such as scales, height meters, and specialized lamps. Additionally, the facility lacks hot and cold water in restrooms, and the sole ambulance on site was found to be missing basic first aid equipment, including rigid boards and securing straps.
