Overview

In Peru, administrative and operational issues have been reported regarding healthcare facilities. The Comptroller General of the Republic (CGR) identified irregularities at the EsSalud Hospital I Cono Sur in Nuevo Chimbote, noting that the facility is mislabeled as a hospital when it functions as a first-level polyclinic. This mislabeling reportedly creates false expectations for patients. The CGR inspection highlighted critical gaps, including a lack of triage areas, missing medical tools like scales and specialized lamps, inadequate restroom water supply, and an ambulance lacking basic first aid equipment.

In a separate development, the Chilca health center relocated its emergency services to a new module on Ciro Alegría Street. This relocation has faced criticism from staff concerning the facility’s condition, such as dust accumulation, and discrepancies regarding the layout. During the transition, emergency services were temporarily diverted to the La Libertad health center.
