Essex coast issued flood alert due to high tides

The Environment Agency has issued a flood alert for parts of the Essex coast due to high spring tides and weather conditions. The alert covers areas ranging from Clacton to St Peters Flat, as well as the Colne and Blackwater estuaries.

Potential flooding and wave overtopping are expected in coastal locations including Clacton Promenade, Lee-over-Sands, and the Brightlingsea seafront. Other high-risk areas include The Strood on Mersea Island, Coast Road, West Mersea seafront car parks, and the Hythe and Promenade in Maldon.

Peak tide levels at Clacton are forecast to reach 2.72m above ordnance datum, which is 0.27m higher than standard tide tables. Authorities advise residents and visitors to avoid coastal roads, footpaths, and car parks that may be subject to flooding.
