Coastal flooding alerts in Essex and Suffolk
Overview
The Environment Agency issued flood alerts for the Essex coast due to high spring tides and weather conditions. Initial warnings focused on areas from Clacton to St Peters Flat, including the Colne and Blackwater estuaries, with specific risks of wave overtopping and flooding at locations such as Brightlingsea, Mersea Island, and Maldon.
By late September, the scope of flood alerts expanded to include the Suffolk coast. In addition to the previously identified Essex locations, alerts were issued for the Deben, Orwell, and Stour estuaries, stretching from Southwold to the Essex border. Measures such as the closing of flood gates on the Felixstowe seafront were implemented to manage the risk of flooding in areas including Pin Mill, the Orwell Bridge, and Woodbridge.
