Italy health studies highlight need for menstrual and urological hygiene awareness
A study conducted by Essity and AstraRicerche reveals that nearly 80% of the Italian population seeks more information regarding menstrual hygiene. The research highlights widespread discomfort and insecurity, with 83.8% of those experiencing menstrual cycles reporting at least one instance of distress, primarily due to fears of staining or odors. Furthermore, 36.1% of respondents do not discuss their intimate health insecurities with anyone, and only 14.5% consult medical professionals.
In response, Essity has launched the ‘IntimaMente Noi’ project to address these taboos through a dedicated vodcast and community activities in collaboration with the Italian Red Cross.
Separately, the Italian Society of Urology (SIU) presented the sixth National Urology Day at the Ministry of Health. The initiative focuses on male uro-andrological prevention, introducing a ‘Decalogue of Uro-Andrological Longevity’ to encourage regular check-ups and healthy lifestyles to manage age-related health issues, including prostate cancer risk.
