Essity female hygiene research and awareness initiative

Overview

Essity, in collaboration with AstraRicerche, conducted research in Italy regarding intimate hygiene and women’s health. The study revealed significant gaps in professional consultation, noting that while family and partners are primary confidants, only 14.5% of women consult medical professionals about hygiene concerns. The data also indicated that 36.1% of women do not discuss these insecurities with anyone.

Further findings highlighted a high demand for menstrual hygiene information, with 78.8% of respondents requesting more data and 82.7% suggesting the topic be addressed with younger generations. The research noted widespread discomfort among those experiencing menstrual cycles, often driven by fears of staining and odors.

In response to these findings, Essity launched the ‘IntimaMente Noi’ project. This initiative includes a three-episode vodcast produced with Adnkronos featuring scientific and institutional experts, as well as field activities conducted alongside the Italian Red Cross to improve information access and prevention.
