Estaleiro Rio Grande begins construction of Transpetro vessels
Estaleiro Rio Grande, located in Rio Grande do Sul, has begun construction on the first of four Handymax-type vessels contracted by Transpetro, a logistics subsidiary of Petrobras. The project is part of the Mar Aberto Program, which aims to renew and expand the Petrobras System's own fleet.
Through a keel-laying ceremony, the construction phase officially commenced. The vessels are designed to transport petroleum derivatives, including marine diesel, S10 and S500 diesel, and aviation gasoline.
Over the coming years, Ecovix is expected to build a total of 13 ships for Transpetro. This order includes four Handymax vessels, five pressurized tankers for LPG and derivatives, and four medium-sized MR1 class vessels. The project is anticipated to generate up to 5,000 direct and indirect jobs.
