Brazilian shipbuilding for Transpetro fleet renewal

Overview

Shipyards in Brazil have commenced construction projects to support Transpetro’s fleet expansion and renewal through the Mar Aberto Program.

In September 2026, Indústria Naval Catarinense (INC) began steel plate cutting for the first of 18 azimuthal pushers ordered by Transpetro. The contract is valued at R$ 324 million, with deliveries scheduled to begin in August 2027 and conclude in June 2028.

By October 2026, Estaleiro Rio Grande initiated construction on the first of four Handymax-type vessels designed to transport petroleum derivatives, such as aviation gasoline and marine diesel. This project is part of a larger effort by Ecovix to build 13 ships for Transpetro, including pressurized tankers and MR1 class vessels, which is expected to generate up to 5,000 jobs.
