Estonia and Slovenia advance energy grid and demand management studies
Estonia has launched a joint study to determine the most cost-efficient way to meet rising electricity demand. Coordinated by the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the initiative involves energy companies, industrial sectors, and electricity consumers. The study will compare various combinations of electricity generation, storage capacity, and cross-border connections to provide an evidence base for future energy-policy decisions following parliamentary elections.
In Slovenia, pilot programs are testing the potential of smart meters and electric vehicle (EV) fleets to create a flexible power market. Research involving companies such as Avantcar and Kolektor sETup indicates that EV charging can be shifted to periods of lower cost without disrupting operations. The Slovenian regulator is exploring models where consumption responds to electricity prices, network conditions, and operational requirements to prevent new demand peaks caused by simultaneous consumer responses to price signals.
