Energy grid management and infrastructure in Estonia andslof
Overview
Estonia and Slovenia have initiated efforts to manage rising electricity demand through strategic studies and pilot programs. In Estonia, a joint study coordinated by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry is evaluating electricity generation, storage, and cross-border connections to inform future energy policy. Meanwhile, Slovenia is testing smart meters and electric vehicle fleets to develop a flexible power market that responds to price signals and network conditions.
In Estonia, infrastructure development has progressed with the opening of a renovated 110/10 kV substation in Kuuste, aimed at improving reliability for thousands of customers and supporting new production and consumption. To fund necessary network investments and crisis preparedness, the operator Elering announced adjustments to network fees for 2027. While the main network fee will increase, simultaneous reductions in balancing and renewable energy fees are intended to offset the change for consumers.
