Estonia Approves Tesla Full Self-Driving System for Public Roads

Estonia’s Transport Administration gave Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) system regulatory approval on May 29, making Estonia the third European Union country to permit the technology after the Netherlands and Lithuania. The agency classified FSD as a Level 2 driver‑assistance feature, meaning the vehicle can steer, accelerate and brake autonomously, but the driver must remain fully attentive and responsible.

The approval relied on the Dutch RDW type‑approval as a baseline after roughly 18 months of testing on European roads. Tesla announced that the rollout will begin soon via over‑the‑air software updates, extending the capability to existing Tesla vehicles in the region. The move signals a potential cascade of similar approvals across the EU and opens a new revenue stream for Tesla in the European market.

Turkish media also noted the approval, linking it to upcoming pricing for Tesla’s FSD subscription in Turkey, but the core event remains Estonia’s regulatory green light for the system.
