Estonia boosts defense messaging amid Russian regional threats

Tensions in the Baltic region are escalating due to Russian rhetoric and Estonian efforts to increase domestic military readiness. Russian President Vladimir Putin has claimed that Baltic states are violating the rights of Russian-speaking populations, stating that Moscow is planning ‘corresponding humanitarian measures in accordance with international law.’ These remarks have raised concerns regarding potential hybrid threats and the use of Cossack structures to support Russian intervention.

In response to security concerns and low military acceptance among its youth, the Estonian Ministry of Defense has launched a 250,000 euro competition to fund war-themed films and video games. The initiative aims to use audiovisual content to address military and strategic issues in a way that is accessible to younger generations, fostering patriotic sentiment and a readiness for potential conflict.
