Hungary and Estonia launch wildlife rabies vaccination campaigns

Authorities in Hungary and Estonia are implementing measures to combat rabies through wildlife vaccination programs.

In Hungary, starting October 3, 2026, an oral vaccination campaign for foxes will begin in southern and eastern counties. To support this, authorities are imposing a dog quarantine and grazing bans in several regions, including the entirety of Csongrád-Csanád County (with specific exceptions). During these periods, pet owners must keep dogs and cats confined or leashed with muzzles to prevent contact with wildlife. The vaccination process involves distributing bait containing the vaccine via small aircraft over designated areas.

In Estonia, the Agriculture and Food Board has announced a vaccination campaign for wild animals in Northeast and Southwest Estonia, scheduled to run from September 21 to October 2, 2026.
