Estonia nest box supports successful Ural owl breeding

A nest box installed in Estonia four years ago has successfully facilitated the breeding of a Ural owl pair, resulting in the raising of three owlets. The development was documented in an August 6 Instagram post by photographer Klaas Huwel, which showcased the young owls within the wooden cavity.

Conservationists note that such nest boxes are vital for species that rely on tree cavities, which are becoming increasingly scarce as older trees with natural hollows diminish. Supporting Ural owl populations helps maintain ecosystem balance by regulating small mammal populations and strengthening local biodiversity.
