Estonian energy companies upgrade grid and adjust network fees

Elektrilevi, in cooperation with Elering, has opened a renovated 110/10 kV regional substation in Kuuste, Kastre Parish. The modernization of the facility, which replaced equipment dating back to 1982, aims to improve electricity network reliability for approximately 4,800 customers in the Kastre, Haaslava, Melliste, and Võnnu regions. The project also facilitates new production and consumption connections to accommodate growing electricity demand and production capacity in the area.

Separately, Elering has announced an adjustment to its network fees starting in 2027. The main network fee will increase by 0.1 cents per kWh, a move approved by the Competition Authority. However, Elering intends to reduce balancing and renewable energy fees simultaneously, which is expected to offset the increase and prevent a rise in total consumer electricity bills. The fee adjustment is intended to ensure grid reliability and fund necessary investments in network development and crisis preparedness amid changing transit revenues.
