Estonian museums host seasonal mushroom exhibitions

Natural history museums in Estonia are hosting seasonal mushroom exhibitions and educational excursions.

The Estonian Natural History Museum in Tallinn is holding its 64th annual mushroom exhibition from September 10 to 20. This marks the final exhibition at the museum's old town location before its relocation to Noblessner in November. The event features various Estonian mushroom species, including edible, non-edible, and poisonous varieties. Visitors can bring fresh mushrooms for identification by experts and participate in curator tours, mushroom cafes, and specialized excursions via train to locations such as Klooga and Sakku.

In Tartu, the University of Tartu Natural History Museum and Botanical Garden are organizing a mushroom exhibition at the Botanical Garden from September 11 to 13, 2026. The display will showcase over 100 species, ranging from chanterelles to fly agarics, alongside information on edibility. Additionally, a free mushroom excursion titled ‘Mushroom Express’ will take place on September 12 in the Taevaskoja forest, providing guided practical knowledge for participants.
