Estonian seasonal mushroom foraging initiatives
Overview
In late August 2026, Elron and RMK launched the ‘Seeneekspress’ map to support the autumn mushroom foraging season in Estonia. The initiative promotes sustainable travel by encouraging foragers to use trains to access state forests and includes guided trips, exhibitions, and events designed to encourage nature excursions.
By mid-September, natural history museums across Estonia began hosting seasonal exhibitions. The Estonian Natural History Museum in Tallinn held its 64th annual exhibition, which served as its final event at the old town location before a planned relocation. In Tartu, the University of Tartu Natural History Museum and Botanical Garden organized a display of over 100 species. Both locations offered expert-led identification services, curator tours, and specialized excursions, such as the ‘Mushroom Express’ in the Taevaskoja forest.
