Estonian retail sales grow 6% in August driven by industrial goods
Estonian retail sales volume increased by 6% in August compared to the same period in 2025, reaching a total revenue of 974 million euros. This growth was primarily driven by industrial goods stores, which saw an 8% increase in sales volume.
Other sectors also showed movement: motor fuel retailers saw a 5% increase in sales volume, while food stores experienced a 3% growth, aided by falling food prices. On a month-to-month basis, retail sales volume decreased by 1% in August compared to July, though seasonally and calendar-adjusted data shows a 1% increase.
Regarding the broader economy, Estonia's GDP grew by 1.8% in the second quarter of 2026 compared to the previous year, totaling 11.1 billion euros at current prices. While the economy has grown for five consecutive quarters, a recent survey by Citadele bank indicates that over half of Estonians believe the general economic situation will worsen in the next three months.
