Estonia's New Car Market Surges, EV Sales Hit Record in July

In July 2026 Estonia sold 1,613 new passenger cars, a 45.8% increase over the same month a year earlier. Over the first seven months of the year, total new car registrations reached 11,592, up 59.6% year‑on‑year.

Electric vehicle sales jumped 76% to 176 units, pushing the share of EVs in total new‑car sales above the 10% threshold for the first time (10.9%). Hybrid cars remain the dominant segment, accounting for 62.1% of July sales with just over 1,000 units sold. The most popular brand was Skoda, with 276 cars sold, led by the Octavia (107 units) and Kodiaq (69 units). Toyota and Volkswagen followed with 229 and 149 units respectively.

Commercial vehicle registrations also rose sharply, with 360 units sold in July (up 46.3% YoY) and a cumulative 2,552 units in the first seven months, a 33.1% increase. Despite the strong growth, Estonia’s EV share still lags behind the EU average, which stood at 20.7% in June.
