Estonian automotive market growth
Overview
The Estonian new car market has entered a period of significant growth and recovery following a sharp decline in 2025. In July 2026, new passenger car sales rose by 45.8% compared to the previous year, contributing to a cumulative year-on-year increase of 59.6% for the first seven months of the year.
This rebound is largely driven by demand for hybrid models, which accounted for 62.1% of July sales. Electric vehicle (EV) adoption also reached a milestone in July, with sales increasing by 76% and the EV market share surpassing 10% for the first time. Despite this progress, Estonia’s EV share remains below the European Union average of approximately 20.7%.
While sales figures are rising, market availability has become a concern. High-demand models and vehicles with advanced equipment may face waiting periods of up to six months. Industry experts note that European Union CO2 emission targets and climate policies continue to shape manufacturer decisions regarding available vehicle types and power sources.
