Eswatini youth entrepreneurship focuses on finance and business structure

Efforts to combat youth unemployment in Eswatini are focusing on both financial access and organizational discipline. The Eswatini Youth Enterprise Revolving Fund (YERF) has demonstrated the impact of development finance through recent site visits to youth-owned enterprises. One beneficiary, Sphesihle Groening of Groening and Associates, utilized an E19,000 loan to expand a tutoring and research business that now serves clients in Eswatini, Tanzania, Kenya, and Taiwan, employing approximately 19 people.

However, industry experts at the Capital Leap Expo 2026 emphasized that capital alone is insufficient to solve the unemployment crisis. Discussions highlighted that young entrepreneurs must prioritize business structuring and organizational discipline to ensure long-term sustainability. Eswatini Bank noted that successful lending requires meeting specific criteria, including character, capacity, conditions, collateral, and capital, placing a responsibility on entrepreneurs to maintain proper financial records and business plans to secure and manage growth.
