Etawah Police bust interstate gang in online betting scam

Etawah Police have dismantled an interstate gang accused of defrauding more than 500 people of crores of rupees through online gaming and betting operations. The operation was carried out by the Civil Lines police station in coordination with the Special Operations Group and surveillance teams.

The four arrested suspects have been identified as Anshul (alias Hansu Tiwari), Rakhi Ranawat, Ankit Mishra, and Mohit. The group members reportedly hail from the Etawah, Mainpuri, and Auraiya districts.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police Brijesh Kumar Srivastava, the gang's modus operandi involved luring villagers with promises of commissions to obtain their identity documents. These documents were then used to secure SIM cards and open bank accounts in the victims' names, which the gang used to facilitate betting activities and route fraudulent proceeds before withdrawing cash via ATM cards. The gang had reportedly been active for the past 8 to 10 months.

Authorities seized 16 mobile phones, 42 ATM and debit cards, six fake SIM cards, a laptop, bank passbooks, cheque books, and identity documents. Additionally, two vehicles allegedly purchased with the proceeds of the fraud were confiscated.
