Ethena and FalconX launch $1 billion USDe lending facility
Ethena and digital asset prime broker FalconX have launched a $1 billion secured warehouse financing facility. The initiative utilizes assets backing Ethena’s USDe synthetic dollar to provide overcollateralized loans to institutional borrowers.
The facility operates through a dedicated special purpose vehicle (SPV). FalconX is responsible for loan origination, servicing, and collateral management, while qualified third-party custodians will hold the pledged assets to ensure security. Borrowers are required to provide collateral exceeding the value of their loans to create a buffer against market volatility.
This strategic move aims to diversify the yield sources for USDe. Historically, the protocol has relied heavily on crypto basis trading, such as funding rate arbitrage, to generate returns. By expanding into institutional credit, Ethena seeks to reduce its dependence on crypto-market carry. The loans provided through this facility are intended to support institutional activities including trading, corporate treasury operations, and payment-related services. While the arrangement introduces new credit and liquidity risks, it represents a significant expansion of USDe’s income-generating capabilities.
