Ethena and FalconX institutional lending partnership

Overview

Ethena and FalconX initiated a partnership to develop an institutional lending strategy. The collaboration was designed to combine Ethena’s capital for over-collateralized stablecoin lending with FalconX’s expertise in loan origination and secured lending.

Following the initial partnership, the two entities launched a $1 billion secured warehouse financing facility. This facility utilizes assets backing Ethena’s USDe synthetic dollar to provide over-collateralized loans to institutional borrowers for activities such as trading, corporate treasury operations, and payment services. FalconX manages the loans through a special purpose vehicle (SPV), while qualified third-party custodians hold collateral to mitigate risk. Ethena maintains a first-priority security interest over the assets within the facility.

The launch of this facility aims to diversify yield sources for USDe. By expanding into institutional credit, Ethena seeks to reduce its historical dependence on crypto-market carry, such as funding rate arbitrage. While the arrangement introduces new credit and liquidity risks, it represents a significant expansion of USDe’s income-generating capabilities.
