Ethereum announces Glamsterdam upgrade and testnet schedule

The Ethereum Foundation has announced the Glamsterdam network upgrade, a major technical advancement following the Fusaka upgrade. The upgrade combines the Amsterdam execution layer with the Gloas consensus layer to improve Layer 1 scaling and throughput.

Key technical features include Enshrined Proposer-Builder Separation (EIP-7732), which integrates the separation of block proposers and builders into the consensus protocol to reduce reliance on trusted middleware, and Block-Level Access Lists (EIP-7928), which record accounts and storage locations accessed during a block. Other goals include increased speed through parallelism and faster synchronization via snap v2.

The Glamsterdam testnet is scheduled to activate on the Sepolia network on October 6, 2026. While a specific mainnet activation date has not been finalized, it is expected to occur in the fourth quarter of 2026.
