Ethereum delays Glamsterdam upgrade due to smart contract risks
Ethereum developers have postponed the Glamsterdam upgrade on the Hoodi testnet following the identification of eight smart contract invariants that could be compromised. The delay follows an analysis by auditing firm ChainSecurity, which found that proposed changes to gas accounting could invalidate existing contract assumptions.
The technical changes, specifically EIP-8037 and EIP-8038, rework how gas is charged for certain operations and state access. This could impact contracts that rely on fixed gas costs or specific transaction failure conditions.
The Ethereum Foundation has requested that developers and auditors review their projects to determine if they are affected. The All Core Developers (ACD) group will hold the Hoodi hard fork until these compatibility concerns are addressed and a decision is made on whether the upgrade specifications require modification.
