Ethereum postpones Glamsterdam upgrade on Hoodi testnet

Ethereum core developers have postponed the Glamsterdam upgrade on the Hoodi testnet, which was originally scheduled for October 26, 2026. The decision, made during the All Core Devs Execution call #248, aims to allow for a deeper investigation into how proposed changes to gas accounting interact with smart contracts already deployed on the mainnet.

The postponement specifically addresses concerns regarding EIP-8037 and EIP-8038. Security firm ChainSecurity warned that these proposals, which modify how the network charges for creating and accessing state, could alter error-handling mechanisms. Specifically, a failure path that previously caused a transaction to revert might instead complete, potentially turning retryable operations into permanent failures. ChainSecurity reported identifying 13 real-world smart contracts that could be affected by this behavior.

As a result of the delay, the planned increase of the Hoodi gas limit to 200 million has also been canceled. While the postponement affects the testnet schedule and requires node operators to update their client software, the Ethereum Foundation clarified that mainnet users and ETH holders do not need to take any action. No new date has been set for the Hoodi activation or the subsequent Glamsterdam mainnet launch.
