Ethereum developers postpone Glamsterdam testnet upgrade

Ethereum core developers have postponed the activation of the Glamsterdam network upgrade on the Hoodi testnet. Originally scheduled for October 26, 2026, the delay was decided during All Core Developers Execution call number 248.

The postponement is driven by concerns regarding EIP-8037, a gas-repricing proposal. Security firm ChainSecurity identified 13 real-world instances where the proposed gas adjustments could cause existing smart contracts to fail in unrecoverable ways. Developers seek additional time to study how changing gas costs might affect contracts that rely on fixed-gas assumptions, such as those using a 2,300-gas stipend or the gasleft() function.

While the delay affects the broader upgrade roadmap and node operators, mainnet users are not required to take any action. A new activation date for the Hoodi testnet has not yet been established, leaving the timeline for the Glamsterdam mainnet upgrade unresolved.
