Ethereum developers withdraw EIP-8363 from Hegota upgrade
Ethereum developers have removed the EIP-8363 proposal, known as Tapered Issuance Burn, from the upcoming Hegota upgrade. The proposal aimed to modify Ethereum’s monetary policy by increasing the percentage of validator rewards burned as the total amount of ETH in staking grows. Under the proposed design, the burn rate could eventually reach 100% as staking participation increases.
Jérôme de Tychey, president of Ethereum France and a co-author of the proposal, stated that the current hard fork planning process was not the appropriate venue to resolve complex debates regarding issuance policy and monetary mechanics. Industry feedback raised concerns regarding network security, validator diversity, and the specific burn formula.
The withdrawal does not mean the proposal has been abandoned. Instead, developers intend to establish a dedicated governance process to discuss Ethereum’s issuance policy. This will include forums and workshops starting at Devcon in November, with further discussions continuing through EthCC in April.
