Ethereum protocol development and staking proposals
Overview
Ethereum developers are managing various technical proposals as part of the network’s ongoing roadmap. In early October, the EIP-8363 proposal, or Tapered Issuance Burn, was withdrawn from the upcoming Hegota upgrade. This proposal sought to adjust monetary policy by increasing the percentage of validator rewards burned as staking grows. Jérôme de Tychey, president of Ethereum France, noted that the hard fork planning process was not the correct venue for such complex debates. Developers plan to address issuance policy through dedicated governance processes, including forums at Devcon in November and EthCC in April.
By mid-October, focus shifted to EIP-8061, a proposal within the Glamsterdam roadmap aimed at improving validator exit capabilities. Unlike previous constraints, EIP-8061 suggests that exit capacity should scale based on the amount of active stake rather than being subject to a fixed throughput cap. While this proposal seeks to streamline exits and consolidation, it maintains an existing activation cap for new stakes, which may continue to cause delays for direct stakers. The proposal is currently in its ‘Last Call’ phase, with a review deadline of November 1, 2026.
