U.S. national debt hits $40 trillion as crypto ETF trends diverge

The United States national debt has surpassed $40 trillion, reaching this milestone months earlier than projected, with analysts citing lost tariff revenue as a contributing factor.

In the cryptocurrency markets, a divergence has emerged between Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs. U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs ended a nine-day inflow streak on August 28, recording $201.8 million in net outflows. This shift coincided with hawkish commentary from Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh regarding inflation targets, which prompted a risk-off sentiment.

Conversely, Ethereum spot ETFs maintained momentum, recording $102.2 million in net inflows on the same day, extending their buying streak to ten sessions. BlackRock’s ETHA fund has been a primary driver, accumulating over $1 billion in ETH recently.

In Russia, Sberbank has announced plans to expand its crypto-collateralized loan offerings to include Ethereum and Tether (USDT), subject to formal authorization from the Central Bank of Russia following new cryptocurrency legislation.
