Ethereum launches Platåberget testnet for Glamsterdam upgrade

The Ethereum Foundation has launched Platåberget, a short-term public testnet designed to facilitate testing for the upcoming Glamsterdam upgrade. Expected to run for several months, the testnet provides a stable environment for developers, validators, and infrastructure providers to experiment with protocol changes before they reach long-lived testnets like Sepolia and Hoodi.

The Glamsterdam upgrade introduces significant modifications to both the consensus and execution layers. Key technical changes include enshrined proposer-builder separation (ePBS), which alters how blocks are built and validated, and the introduction of block-level access lists (BALs) to track state locations and changes.

Additionally, the upgrade includes gas repricings aimed at establishing a 200 million gas floor, as well as increased maximum sizes for deployed contracts and initcode. Developers are cautioned that these changes may break existing tools—such as wallets, indexers, and gas estimators—that rely on hardcapped maximum gas limits or specific block production workflows.
