Ethereum to launch Glamsterdam upgrade on Sepolia testnet

Ethereum is scheduled to launch its next major network update, known as Glamsterdam, on the Sepolia testnet on October 6th. This update combines the Amsterdam execution layer update with the Gloas consensus layer update into a single package.

A primary technical goal of Glamsterdam is to improve network capacity and efficiency. The update introduces the ePBS system, which separates validators who propose blocks from the structures that prepare them. Additionally, the implementation of block-level access lists aims to facilitate parallel transaction processing, potentially increasing the mainnet's capacity in the future.

The update also addresses Maximum Extractable Value (MEV) by aiming for a more efficient and less opaque distribution of transaction ordering rewards. While the Sepolia testnet launch is a critical step for developers to test these hard fork changes without risking real funds, a specific date for the mainnet activation has not yet been confirmed. Mainnet scheduling will depend on the results of the Sepolia testing phase.
