Ethiopian Airlines launches new international route to Nacala
Ethiopian Airlines has inaugurated a new regular international flight service to Nacala International Airport in Mozambique. The Boeing 737-800 flight, which arrived on October 27, connects Nacala to Addis Ababa via a stop in Blantyre, Malawi. The service will operate three times per week.
This development marks the first regular international connection for the airport since its inauguration in 2014. The new route is expected to strengthen the Nacala Corridor by linking air transport with the region's deep-water port and existing rail and road networks. This integration aims to facilitate trade and logistics for landlocked neighbors, including Malawi and Zambia.
Local officials, including Nampula Provincial Governor Eduardo Mariamo Abdula and Ministry of Transport Permanent Secretary Irina Ribeiro, noted that the expansion recognizes Nacala's strategic economic potential. The airline's presence is intended to support the region's Special Economic Zone and provide passengers in northern Mozambique with access to over 130 global destinations through the Ethiopian Airlines network.
