EU 3‑euro customs fee for small parcels takes effect in Hungary

From 1 July, Hungary will apply the new EU customs rule that levies a €3 duty on packages valued under €150 sent from non‑EU online retailers. The fee is calculated per product category within a parcel, not per package, so a shipment containing three different items incurs €9, while three identical items incur only €3.

The Hungarian National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) is coordinating with market participants to ensure a smooth transition. The duty will be collected by postal services, couriers, or platform partners, and the cost will be incorporated into the final price paid by consumers. The rule applies only to low‑value shipments; higher‑value parcels remain unaffected.

The regulation is part of the EU-wide customs reform aimed at protecting domestic markets and creating fairer competition between EU and third‑country sellers.
